Whoop Whoop! March is Here!

Updated: Mar 3, 2022

Well we said that we would be leaving February with a bang and last week certainly did not disappoint! After a chilled week of being open as just a bar, Friday we had the 2 year anniversary of our Hip Hop Lounge.

The night was jam-packed with rappers and guest performers stepping up to the mic and the atmosphere was absolutely amazing! If you didn't get chance to come down, don't worry, The Hip Hop Lounge will return Friday 25th March (last Friday of each month) and entry is just £5.

Saturday night we had the mighty, Popscene playing some awesome Britpop classics and it was so great to be old-skool-busy, full of people dancing and singing along. Then on Sunday, the sun actually came out for the 1st time in what has felt like forever and we had our Sunday Vibes Session with DJ Double Deckers providing a fantastic soundtrack of Northern Soul, Mod & Ska vinyl classics for us to bop along to!

We usually only open 12-4pm on Sunday, but last Sunday, with thanks to Gazza Records, we had something rather unusual and special planned. That night we had the phenomenal Jim Jones All Stars come and play, with support from Paul-Ronney Angel & Tomirae Brown! The night absolutely blew our minds!!!

It was EPIC!!! We have never been so pleased to be closed on a Monday, because the whirlwind of high energy, insanely good music, left us more than a little bit broken!!! But you'll be happy to know that we are now all rested and ready to head into March with a jampacked schedule of absolutely fantastic events!

As of this week, we are relaunching our Thursday night events. We have 3 events that we plan to launch...

Firstly our Café Vibes Sessions: The idea is to have a space for more chilled live music, with tables, seating and standing room, with a more Blues-club feel. When we have run these events in the past they have been pure magic and the musicians that have come to perform have been absolutely phenomenal. Entry is just £5 and it is the perfect excuse to work your way through our Crow Cocktail menu and sit back and enjoy a night of fantastic live music. These events finish at 11pm.

Next is our Before World Domination event: With so many exciting, high energy originals bands trying to break into the industry, we are planning to give a monthly platform for them to showcase their music. Each event will have 2-3 original bands that we think are likely to soon be taking the music world by storm, so come and see them here while you can! Entry is just £2 on the door and we will release details of each event on our website.

Finally, with our Friday Nights being dedicated to us being a music venue, with entry usually set at £5, our Saturdays dedicated to being a free entry beer-and-bop fest (!) and Sundays a chilled vibe, we have realised that we need to make room for some of the bigger circuit performers that we have been lucky enough to hook up with. So we have decided that on occasion, these gigs will go ahead on a Thursday Night. Later this year we have the fantastic Spike from The Quireboys joining us for an intimate seated gig, Chris Difford (Squeeze), John Otway is returning with his Big Band, awesome blues/rock bands Stray and Vambo and the return of Amy Winehouse tribute, Sammy B and Blues Band tribute and more bands are being added all the time. All details for these gigs will be released on our website, so keep your eyes peeled.

If you have been thinking that the Thursday nights seem interesting and have been toying with the idea of attending... don't delay, DO IT!!!! We are unfortunately are not in a position to give events the time to grow that we once were and we desperately don't want to lose them. Without harping on again about the last couple of years, we are lucky that we have survived, but to thrive, we need your support. Pop down and see us, tell all your friends, share our posts etc etc... You know the drill Crow Brothers & Sisters!

IF we can get our Thursday nights up and running and working well this month, next month we plan to launch more events on our Wednesdays. We are already hosting a monthly Wednesday night quiz (2nd Wednesday of each month) and Castle Comedy returns the last Wednesday of each month from April. We have so many exciting events that we wish to launch, from Salsa nights, movie nights, interactive theatre, murder mystery's, drag cabaret and jam nights and work is already underway! Let's keep everything crossed that we will soon be able to get these up and running, as whilst we always intend for live music to be at the heart of what The Crooked Crow Bar is all about, there is still SO much more we wish to do! But for now, enough waffle...

The Estimators are a splendidly vibrant traditional Jamaican ska band hailing out of London, England! These true jamaican ska music roots warriors get nothing less than 'total music respect' with their full respect showing to the music first and foremost. With fabulous grooves, sensational horn section displays and whole overall band brilliances they captivated me completely with their entire Ska music spectrum and I was absolutely skankin' in my ear music modules throughout, 'pick it up' 'pick it up', yeah man! They just really love the music and when you check them out live wait till they get you all into their definition fully and then watch their music roofs! They objective is the audience always in having a rocking good time and all should appreciate that class definiton. On that note, if you love ska well, look no further and checkout these 'true music rudeboys' out, giving you the "Real music goods", love this bands whole music vibe! (Forkster's Daily Band Review)
